Vancouver Island is one of our favourite destinations for a week away. With a variety of things to do and explore or a relaxing week by the beach. Vancouver Island has it.
If you’ve never been to Vancouver Island before we have a lovely journey that will have you exploring the island and getting a wonderful introduction to such a wonderful place. The Island is 456km long and 100km in width at its widest point, some 32,000km² there is plenty to get distracted as you drive around. Arguably the best way to arrive on the island is catching the ferry to Swartz Bay, it’s a scenic trip through the numerous islands that satellite Vancouver Island. Make sure to make reservations on the departure and return ferries finally make sure you've made a booking at the Tofino or Ucluelet campsites.
Monday;
Monday morning pickup the van and head over to Vancouver Island to begin this lovely week connecting with nature. Plenty of walks through Old forests, hikes to beautiful views and marvelling at all the windy mountain roads and coast lines. Arriving Swartz Bay, head north for Strathcona Provincial Park. Staying at either of the campsites nearby, Driftwood or Butte Lake. You can explore many walks and Butte lake has a road along it to Myra Falls.
Tuesday;
Travel South to Get West Adventure Cruises and have a day on a boat visiting Nootka Sound day cruise. A wonderful day trip from 9am - 7pm.
Wednesday;
Visit Cathedral Grove and walk among 800year old trees, on you way to Ucluelet or Tofino.
Thursday;
Explore Ucluelet climb Mt Ozzard and enjoy views of the Pacific Rim and the Barkley Sound. Even can try you hand at surfing.
Friday;
Head to Pachena Bay and enjoy the wilderness adventure. Here you can sampler the Bamfield end of the West Coast Trail. Another reason to come back and visit Vancouver Island the West Coast Trail. Make sure to walk along the coast and visit the Pachena Light House.
Saturday;
Head to Port Renfrew, known as the Tall Tree capital of Canada. On your way visit Lake Cowichan for a break get out on the lake in a kayak or SUP.
Sunday;
For your final day you can either head back to Victoria and enjoy the day exploring the oldest city in western Canada and the capital of the province. Or you can enjoy the costal trip stopping at various beaches, Sombrio beach has a hidden waterfall and a suspension bride, Mystic beach and China Beach also the Lighthouse at Sheringham Point.
Dont forget to make it to the ferry terminal ontime!
